Application Guide

SURFACE PREPARATION: Surface must be structurally sound and thoroughly cleaned and dry, free from dust, dirt, oils, glossy or loose paint, glue, surface sealers and other contaminants. Concrete must be fully cured (minimum 28 days) prior to application of E-Z Stone Decorative Stone Coating. Painted surfaces must be scuffed or sanded to allow for proper adhesion. Pressure treated wood must be aged at least one year before applying E-Z Stone. Repair any roughly pitted, damaged or flaking surfaces and caulk seams with Stone Mason concrete repair products, to provide a smooth surface. The concrete surface must be sloped to assure drainage of water. Water should not be allowed to stand or puddle on the E-Z Stone surface for extended periods once it is completed.

Efflorescent, new or smooth surfaces should be acid etched & then thoroughly cleaned. E-Z Stone should not be applied over control joints, expansion joints and saw cuts. For wood floors ensure any loose flooring is tightly nailed down and support is sufficient. Surface must be structurally sound with little or no movement.

Prime Coat (Waterbased)

E-Z Stone Prime Coat is a premium waterbased primer and bonding adhesive specifically formulated for the application of the E-Z Stone Decorative Coating. E-Z Stone Prime Coat provides maximum adhesion and coverage of the E-Z Stone Decorative Coating for interior, exterior applications. E-Z Stone Prime Coat can be applied on vertical and horizontal surfaces such as concrete, masonry, drywall and wood, paving the way for the application of the E-Z Stone Decorative Stone Coating.

YOU NEED: kneepads, paint roller & brush, gloves, protective clothing and eye glasses.

APPLICATION: Thoroughly mix the product. Uniformly apply a thin undiluted coat using a roller or soft bristle brush. Do not allow to puddle. Protect the primed area until application of E-Z Stone Decorative Coating. Allow to dry 4 hours or until tack free (dry time may be extended in damp or cool conditions).

LIMITATIONS: Apply when the ambient air and surface temperature is between 10ºC (50ºF) and 40ºC (104ºF). Do not apply if surface and air temperature are or will fall below 10ºC (50ºF) for at least 24 hours. Do not apply if rain is forecast within a minimum of 24 hours

COVERAGE: The coverage rate may vary depending on the surface to which the product is applied and the skill of the applicator. One coat will cover approx. 14.9 m² (160 sq ft.) per 3.78L (1 gallon).

Wise Tips
• For best results, smooth, new and efflorescent concrete surfaces are recommended to be etched with a 2-parts water / one part muriatic acid solution. Thoroughly rinse acid solution from surface.
• New concrete should be allowed to cure for a minimum of 28 days before applying E-Z Stone.

Stone Coat (Waterbased) - Choose your colour

YOU NEED: steel pool trowel, kneepads, gloves, protective clothing & eye glasses.

APPLICATION: Thoroughly stir E-Z Stone Coating prior to application with a paint stick or power drill and a mixing paddle. Apply coating to a smooth surface in small workable areas. Press firmly applying E-Z Stone Coating to approx. 1.6 mm (1/16") thickness using a steel trowel at about a 10°–15° angle (recommended round pool trowel). If lighter coloration or pinholes appear on dried finished areas, re-apply a thin coat of E-Z Stone Coating to achieve required thickness & colour. FOR MAXIMUM CONTROL AND BEST APPEARANCE, TWO THIN COATS ARE RECOMMENDED. Allow 4–6 hours between coats. During trowel application smooth out any ridges or trowel marks with a smoothing sweep of the trowel. E-Z Stone decorative coating can also be spray applied with a hopper gun & air compressor, holding pistol approx. 46 cm (18") away from surface, then smooth& press with a trowel. The finished surface must be protected from rain, condensation, dew or freezing for at least 24 hours after application.

LIMITATIONS: Apply between 10ºC (50ºF) and 40ºC (104ºF). Do not apply if surface and air temperature are or will fall below 10ºC (50ºF) for at least 24 hours. Do not apply if rain is forecast within a minimum of 24 hours

COVERAGE: 3.78 L (1 U.S. Gallon) will cover approximately 33.3 m2 (35 sq. ft.) with one coat - we recommend applying two thin coats on horizontal applications.

Wise Tips
• Apply E-Z Stone Primer prior to applying E-Z Stone Coating.
• For larger applications inter-mix containers to ensure colour consistency.
• For maximum control do not apply under hot sunlight or high heat conditions.
FOR BEST RESULTS AND PERFORMANCE TWO THIN COATS ARE RECOMMENDED. ALLOW 4-6 HOURS BETWEEN COATS.
• On vertical surfaces work in upward direction.
• Work wet-in-wet areas to avoid visible overlap seams, mist area with water as necessary.

Apply E-Z Stone on Walls or Other Vertical Surfaces
First apply the specially formulated E-Z Stone primer to ensure good adherence and ease spread on vertical surfaces.

TROWEL APPLICATION: Starting from the bottom spread the coating in an upward motion using a round pool trowel. Keep on smoothing the surface until uniform in colour and consistency.

SPRAY APPLICATION: Using a hopper gun and air compressor, hold the pistol approximately 46 cm (18”) away from the surface.

Apply on Floors or Other Horizontal Surfaces
SOLID COLOURS:
1). Seamless application - follow general instructions from Step 2.
2). Patterned application - can be created by using masking or filament tape to obtain various effects: square tiles of any size, unique patterns, even letters and logos. Press the tape (duct
or plastic tape is recommended) directly on primer and spread the coating on top. Let it cure for 24 hours before removing the tape.

COLOUR COMBINATIONS:
1). When using the “grout” effect, place tape first, then cover all the surrounding areas that will get another colour. Apply, let cure for 24 hours and proceed with the next colour.
2). When colours butt each other, make sure you protect with tape each perimeter as it is applied. We recommend the application of two coats of sealer for both interior and exterior floors.

Apply Over Interior Tiles
Porous tiles present no problem when properly primed - for a flat, uniform surface you must fill up the grout indents using tuck-pointing or concrete crack filler. Ceramic tiles with a high gloss must be de-glazed in order to ensure proper adhesion. Ensure
the surface is free of any dust before applying the primer.

Protective Sealer (Waterbased)

E-Z Stone Protective Sealer is a premium, high performance acrylic, exterior/interior,
waterbased clear sealer specially formulated to protect and maintain the fresh
appearance of the E-Z Stone Decorative Coating. E-Z Stone Protective Sealer protects
against damaging water, liquid, gas, oil and chemical spills, as well as harmful salts and
outside weathering.

YOU NEED: paint roller or brush, paint tray, gloves, protective clothing & eye glasses.

APPLICATION: Ensure surface is clear from dirt and debris. Pour sealer into a paint tray and apply a thin coat either with a roller or airless spray equipment. The roller should have a 6 mm (1/4") nap.
Use light pressure to achieve a thin, even application. A second coat is recommended for maximum protection and durability. The first coat must be dry to the touch (a minimum of 4 hours) before the
second coat is applied. After applying the second coat, the surface must be allowed to fully cure before exposing to traffic of any kind. Drying and curing times will vary according to temperature and humidity conditions. Apply in dry conditions, in the morning or late afternoon, to avoid excessive mid-day heat. Allow 8 hours for light traffic & 24 hours for heavy traffic. Apply between 10°C (50°F) and 40°C (104°F). Do not apply if surface and air temperature are or will fall below 10°C (50°F) for at least 24 hours. Do not apply if rain is forecast within a minimum of 24 hours.

COVERAGE: 3.78 L (1 U.S. Gallon) will cover approximately 37.2 m2 (400 sq. ft.) with one coat over a smooth surface. On a rough surface the coverage will be less.

Wise Tips
• For Best results and performance two thin coats are recommended. Allow 4 hours between coats.
• Best to apply in warm weather 10ºC (50ºF) and 40ºC (104ºF) and in low humidity.
• Promptly clean all spills on sealed surfaces with a mild detergent.
• Re-seal approx. every 2 years or as needed.
• Use plastic shovels for snow and ice removal.
